Hemp Seeds For Health

Did you know that Hemp seeds are actually a nut? Sometimes they’re referred to a Hemp Hearts. Hemp seeds (nuts or hearts – whatever like to call them!) are extremely nutritious.  Hemp seeds are also easy to eat as they have a mild and nutty flavor.

In fact if you’re wanting to add the benefits of hemp to your diet, they can be the easiest way to go as they have a much milder taste than hemp oil, they’re much easier to access than CBD oil (Cannabidiol Oil) and they have only trace amounts of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) the psychoactive component of the cannabis sativa plant .

Hemp seed are over 30% fat. They are vastly rich in two of the essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega 6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega 3).

They also contain gamma-linolenic acid, which provide many health benefits as well.

Hemp seeds contain 25% protein. So they’re also a great source of protein.

If you’re a big consumer of  chia and flax seeds, then you’ll be happy to know that hemp seeds are even higher in protein than both of these traditionally used seeds, which contain 16–18% protein.

Not that we’re trying to convince you to eat hemp seeds instead – it’s about getting a wide range of foods that contribute to a sound constitution. The availability of Hemp seeds just increases your choices.

Hemp seeds are also a great source of vitamin E. Which is important for both the integrity of your skin and the health of your heart. And hemp seeds contain a plethora of minerals, such as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc.

Best of all, hemp seeds can be consumed raw, cooked or roasted.

And of course….this week they’re on sale at SupaNatural Health Tweed City!

Drug Free Sports?

As an athlete who competed in “natural” drug tested competition, it always amazes me how naive and biased both the general public and the mainstream media can be regarding drugs in sports.

Shayna Jack has made headlines for her recent “heartache” and “sadness” over her in competition drug test results (as outlined in Ing’s insightful commentary https://www.news.com.au/sport/more-sports/dark-truth-about-swimming-champion-shayna-jacks-heartache-and-sadness/news-story/ea3ceeed05dac308ce8fda547930a084).

She’s blaming a supplement she used. I wasn’t a professional athlete, nor an olympic athlete. What I do know though, is that it’s easy – so very easy – to know which substances one needs to avoid to test negative on a drug test. they’re listed here https://www.asada.gov.au/substances/supplements-sport

There’s even an app one can use.

And some basic rules – like, make sure your supplement is made in your country.

And it’s not just for athletes wanting to avoid a 4 year ban from the sport they’ve dedicated their life to. It’s for athletes who want to look after their health and fitness enthusiasts who feel the same.

Look for supplements that have the HASTA logo. Like Body Science https://www.bodyscience.com.au/drugtest

If you can’t read the label – don’t take the risk. It’s not rocket science. In saying that, if you didn’t know, then now you do. And if knowing is as simple as reading this blog…then you have to wonder about an athlete who has dedicated their life to a sport who seems perplexed that this could happen to them….?

Glow from the inside out with Collagen Beauty

Here at SupaNatural we’re all about creating wellness from the inside out. That’s probably why one of our fastest moving products is NutraOrganics Collagen Beauty with VERISOL® Bioactive Collagen Peptides.

Did you know that our skin is made up of over 75 % collagen? By our mid 20’s it starts to degenerate and that’s when we begin to show the signs of ageing skin. There’s definitely lifestyle factors, environmental factors and, unfortunately, genetic factors, that can accelerate this aging process.

That’s where Collagen Beauty comes in. Collagen Beauty is a natural formulation with VERISOL® Bioactive Collagen Peptides to improve structural integrity of skin and decrease skin aging factors. In fact in as little as 8 weeks of use, it has been shown to improve skin quality of the entire body – smoothing skin wrinkles from within.

Collagen Beauty with VERISOL®, as part of a balanced diet, is clinically proven to:

  • Reduce skin wrinkles and smooth fine lines
  • Increase skin hydration and improve moisture levels
  • Increase skin elasticity
  • Contributes to healthy gut and skin by supporting structure and function of connective tissue with Vitamin C

  • Support tissue building & repair with a good source of Protein
  • Plus contains the naturopathic herb Horsetail, which is traditionally said to make hair strong like a horse’s tail.

In our convenience dominated society Collagen is often left out of the modern diet. It used to be so common to eat the kind of foods that contribute to collagen formation in the body. Bone broths, slow cooked using not only meats but the bones and connective tissues that are sometimes mistakenly thrown away – were once so commonly used in our society.

NutraOrganics are now bringing together the world of wholistic nutrition and the modern world of convenience. Collagen Beauty is only the good stuff – pure type I and type III sustainably sourced collagen that fully dissolves in hot or cold liquid whilst maintaining its benefits.

Collagen Beauty is pregnancy, breastfeeding and child friendly (suitable for 12 months & up).

More Hemp for Greater Health

We all know that hemp seeds are packed with beneficial a stack of nutrients. This includes all nine essential amino acids – so they are a great source of protein. They’re also rich in dietary fiber and essential fatty acids. And because they’re a seed  they contain Omega 3 and 6 (Alpha Linolenic Acid and Linoleic Acid). These oils are considered essential fatty acids must be consumed from the diet as the body is unable to produce them naturally itself as it is able to do with other fats.

This week we received an order of Blooms Bio-Fermented Hemp. It’s a great alternative source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Which is awesome for those of us who are vegans and those of us (myself included) who dry retch just thinking about fish oil! It’s a Hemp that’s suitable for the whole family.

You can drink Blooms Bio-Fermented Hemp straight or mixed with still or sparkling water for a delicious and easy way to get a daily dose of gut-restoring raw probiotics and body-repairing Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids.

What’s bio-fermentation I hear you ask?? It’s a process that creates a powerful bio-active concentrate, with an abundance of nutrients and 6 strains of probiotics including Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium lactis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (boulardii).

This probiotic/fermentation procedure also offers beneficial enzymes, B vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids as well as providing approximately 6 billion CFUs of good bacteria in each 15 ml serve.

So it’s got all the benefits of Hemp seeds and all the benfits of a probiotic!

It aids digestion, creates a healthy environment in the gut,, promotes good intestinal flora and helps combat harmful bacteria.

And, of course, it’s on sale this week only at SupaNatural Health Tweed City!

Hemp Oil and Skin Health

Hemp oil can is a full spectrum oil from the Cannabis sativa plant that comes from just the seeds of the hemp plant.

The oil from the hemp seed is highly nutritious and may be especially helpful for the skin.

The vitamins and fatty acids in hemp oil keeps the skin healthy and prevent breakouts in those prone to acne.

Hemp oil contains a plethora of fatty acids that may make the oil an excellent choice for nourishing the skin and protecting it from inflammation, oxidation, and other causes of aging.

Topical application of hemp seed oil strengthens the skin and makes it better able to resist infection. Hemp seed oil may be a helpful treatment for a range of skin issues, including:

  • eczema
  • dermatitis
  • psoriasis
  • varicose eczema
  • lichen planus an inflammatory skin condition
  • acne rosacea

The benefit illustrated in these conditions are likely to be due to the high quantity of beneficial essential fatty acids and other helpful compounds in the oil.

Our brains also are mostly made of fat. The fatty acid content of hemp seed oil may also be good for the brain. The brain requires plenty of healthful fats to operate properly. Hemp seed oil is also rich in other compounds that may help protect the brain.

Studies have found that hemp seed oils containing these active compounds was able to help protect the brain against inflammation. in fact hemp seed oil contains polyphenols, which may assist in prote

Hemp Oil also contains alpha-linolenic acid. This appears to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This fatty acid, is also present in fish oils and flaxseed oil.

“Isn’t Hemp a Narcotic…?”

This is the question I get asked the most at the moment – “How can you sell Hemp in the shop? Isn’t it illegal??”

In short, no it’s not a narcotic and it’s now entirely legal in Australia.

The hemp plant does contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which at high concentrations is a psycho-active or mind altering ingredient.

This THC component of the plant is why the cultivation of the crop was banned in 1937. Cannabis sativa then fell under a classification that prohibits all species of cannabis from being added to food, or sold as a food.

In April 2017 the decision was overturned and low THC hemp is now legally approved for human consumption. Since then Australia’s consumer demand has skyrocketed.

Hemp crops contain little to no active compounds and the cultivation of plants with a THC level of greater than 0.35% in Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania, and greater than 1% in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland, is an offence under relevant Australian state drug laws.

In actual fact hemp is no different than your oats, grain etc. in terms of narcotic effects.

Cannabidiol oil or CBD is different again and not freely available in Australia presently. Although, hopefully soon we will have better access to CBD to treat everything from Anxiety to pain.

If you’d like to know more about hemp products or CBD come in an speak to us!

Natural Pain Relief is at Hand

About 1/4 of our customers experience some level of pain. Be it muscular or joint, a gut issue or nerve pain. Inflammation contributes to these types of chronic pain & recent scientific data points to the main active ingredients of turmeric as providing relief from these kinds of inflammation.

Turmeric has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine as an anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic, and this action has been supported by studies that show anti-inflammatory activity of its active constituent, curcumin.

We confidently encourage customers to try Bio Curcumin 5400 from Herbs of Gold as it contains curcumin, the active component of Turmeric which is responsible for its anti-inflammatory and anti arthritic action.

Specifically, Herbs of Gold Bio Curcumin contains a patented form of curcumin called  Meriva® curcumin, which has been clinically trialled for the symptomatic relief, increased joint mobility and reduced joint swelling and inflammation associated with mild arthritis.

Bio Curcumin 5400 helps to enhance and promote joint function in mild arthritis. Bio Curcumin 5400 also helps to reduce joint stiffness and discomfort, pain, inflexibility and immobility associated with mild arthritis. We look forward to seeing trials comparing Curcumin to CBD oil to find out how they compare for efficacy.

But you don’t have to have diagnosed arthritis to benefit from curcumin. I can personally attest to experiencing a reduction in muscular soreness post exercise whilst using this supplement.

You can check out the results of these trials here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21194249

Try it for yourself – it’s on Sale this month at SupanaturalHealth Tweed City.

Tried Hemp yet?

The term “Hemp Oil” can refer to a full spectrum of oils from the Cannabis sativa plant or hemp seed oil, which is oil that comes specifically only from the seeds of the hemp plant.

The risk of intoxication from hemp oil is exceptionally low as all forms of hemp oil come from food grade strains of hemp. In a study published in the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, authors noted that food grain strains of hemp must contain less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol, or  THC. THC is the compound in the Cannabis sativa plant that cause the “high” of marijuana. It is the psychotropic element. Since this concentration of THC is so low in food grade hemp oil, consuming hemp oil will not interfere with your ability to function normally whilst working or driving.

Hemp oil is also not the same as cannabidiol oil. This is the oil often referred to as CBD. The production of CBD oil uses the entire plant. Its stalks, leaves, and also the flowers of the hemp plant. These contain  higher concentrations of CBD. CBD is another potentially beneficial compound found naturally in the Cannabis sativa plant.

Food grade Hemp seed oil comes from the small seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant. These seeds don’t contain the same levels of compounds as the plant. However, the seeds, and therefore the hemp seed oil, still have a rich profile of nutrients, essential fatty acids, and more useful active compounds.

Hemp oil also contains plant matter with compounds which may assist certain health issues, such as inflammation.

The best news is that Hemp oil is now available for human consumption in Australia. So if you’re interested in trying some in order to experience the vast health benefits of this natural resource, then you’ll find it on sale this month at SupaNatural Health Tweed City.

Over the next few blogs we’ll outline more of the benefits of Hemp Oil, Hemp Seeds and Hemp Protein. We’ll also outline some of the differences between Hemp Oil and CBD. Hopefully we can help clarify the benefits you may expect to experience from all of these products and assist you in deciding which one might be right for you.
